HAPPENING is a weekend for teenagers presented by teenagers. The weekend is spent in a relaxed, fun, informal, safe, environment where you can share your faith in a Christian atmosphere. A young person who acts as "rector" leads the weekend with the help of clergy and a staff of mostly young people.

·        Is Christianity relevant to youth today?

·        Can it penetrate the many areas of school life?

·        Can it transform the world and keep up with changing times?

The Happening movement thinks so. It does not propose a new type of spirituality, but provides a method through which one's spirituality may be developed, nourished, lived and shared in fellowship with Christians willing to dedicate their lives to God in an ongoing manner.

Happening encourages participation in one's own local congregation and youth program. It also challenges participants to relate their Christian faith to their world.

The format of the weekend includes thought-provoking and challenging talks given by members of the staff and clergy.  After each talk, the opportunity is given for questions and discussion in small groups.   The sacraments of the church also play an integral part throughout the weekend.

Happening Steering Committee:

Happening Steering Committee is an elected group of youth and adults from the Happening community.  The Steering Committee is made up on 6 seniors, 4 juniors and 2 sophomores, plus 4 adults, 1-2 spiritual directors, plus the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator.   The group meets on a regular basis, 6 times a year, to plan the Happening weekends and other events that are connected to the Happening program.  If you have been on a Happening weekend, you are welcome to attend a Steering Committee meeting, though only elected members have vote at meetings.
